Ground Source Heat Pumps (GSHP)

Ground Source Heat Pumps Lymington, Hampshire, New Forest.

Ground source heat pumps use pipes which are buried in the garden to extract heat from the ground. This heat can then be used to heat radiators, underfloor or warm air heating systems and hot water in your home. At approximately 60% more efficient than a condensing boiler a ground source heat pump is a great way to save money and the environment.

The benefits of GSHP;

  • Could lower your fuel bills, especially if you replace conventional electric heating
  • Could provide you with an income through the government’s Renewable Heat Incentive
  • Could lower your home’s carbon emissions, depending on which fuel you are replacing
  • Can heat your home and provide hot water
  • Requires little maintenance – they’re called ‘fit and forget’ technology.

Savings & Earnings

You may be able to receive payments for the heat you generate using a heat pump through the government’s Renewable Heat Incentive (RHI).

This is a government initiative to reduce carbon emissions and reward households who move away from fossil fuels to heat their homes.Working in a similar way to the Feed-in-Tariff for solar photovoltaic (solar PV) systems, owners of heat pumps will be paid according to the total heat load of the property in kilowatt hours, for seven years tax-free. Efficiency

The advantage of using a ground source heat pump is its efficiency. For every kWh of electricity used to power the heat pump, about three or four kWh of energy is extracted from the ground. This ratio of heat supplied to the building and the electrical energy consumed is called the Coefficient of Performance (CoP). In the simplest form, think of it as buy one get three free!
